The Mountbatten hospice group, which comprises Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Mountbatten Hampshire, has joined forces with Southampton Solent University to launch a brand new course in palliative and end-of-life care.
The Level 7 module, worth 30 credits, is aimed at healthcare professionals and starts in September 2025.
Its goal is to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required to provide effective and compassionate care to people at the end-of-life, and their family – a field in which staff at the Mountbatten hospice group are renowned as leaders.
The accredited course focuses on the delivery of holistic, people-centred care, supporting the physical, emotional, psychological and social needs of people dealing with death and dying, and their families.
Delivered by Mountbatten’s multi-professional team of experts, best practice, knowledge and experience will be on the agenda and teaching will be interactive and scenario-based.
Dr Elaine Cockerham, Head of Education for the Mountbatten Group, says:
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Southampton Solent University. The importance of delivering best practice in palliative and end-of-life care cannot be overstated and this is a wonderful opportunity for healthcare professionals who want to expand their scope of practice to learn from our expert staff.”
Jan Parker, Head of Social Sciences and Nursing at Southampton Solent University, adds:
“We’re honoured to be working alongside Mountbatten Hospice on this initiative.
“Their expertise and ethos deeply align with our commitment to nurturing thoughtful, resilient healthcare professionals prepared to meet the evolving needs of their communities.
“This partnership marks a meaningful step toward fostering innovation, compassion, and sector-ready excellence in postgraduate nursing education.”
