Police and paramedics are tending to a motorcyclist who has been injured following a collision with a car on Fairlee Road on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Thursday).
The incident, which has happened at the junction for Island Harbour at Binfield Corner, has seen a white motorcycle come to a stop off the carriageway after colliding with a grey Dacia Duster.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 09:45.
Traffic is building in both directions on the main road in and out of Newport.
UPDATE ON FRIDAY – The motorcyclist involved was taken to hospital with suspected broken ribs.

Speeding through weaving in and out of traffic again?
Or a useless motorist not looking? Motorcyclists find it rather more difficult to stare at their phone whilst driving, and unless they have a death wish ride defensively purely because the majority of people in cars just don’t look where they’re going due to a combination of poor driving skills and too many distractions in the car. Try driving in Spain or Italy and see the difference – motorcyclists actually get some respect instead of ignorant idiots in large SUVs acting like no-one else on the road exists.
To be fair, you rarely see a motorcyclist riding ‘defensively’. I’m sure there’s a few that do, but unfortunately the majority are riding on your back bumper until they can get past you and, as the OP said, weaving in and out of traffic.
Be honest, how often do you see a motorcyclist calmly riding along in a line of vehicles and not trying desperately to overtake anyone and everyone?
Having said that, none of us know what happened in this instance. Could have been the car driver but equally could have been the motorcyclist’s fault.
Perfectly legal, and encouraged by instructors to filter through traffic.
Aye on both counts, if cars could they would lol people have the patience of a lemming when it comes to sitting in traffic; I think the versatility of a motorbike makes them jealous
I filter through traffic but it should be done at a reasonable speed allowing you to stop when cars change lane in front, however I do see some car drivers block motorcycles by closing the gap as you get closer and as a truck driver I see bad riders especially on L plates
Many motorbikes are air cooled…
as a motorcyclist myself, I do not hog back bumpers, I safely sit where the driver can see me through his door mirror, I can see what the driver is going to do, so am ready for defensive manoeuvres.. and yes I overtake if speed limit allows, many times because who wants vehicle exhaust pumped into their face ? But I am not a boy/girl racer..
Yeah. Spain and Italy. Because they don’t have loads of deaths on the roads involving cars and bikes. Are you high?
you stupid twat
Another one bites the Duster?
The junction at Island Harbour is notoriously difficult to come out of, especially with the “cycle track” there as well, maybe council need to look at this problem-spot a bit more thoroughly?
Only if you want to turn right you only need to turn left and go to the roundabout that’s the trouble these days nobody can wait
No comments from me on this, before anyone using my name makes any comment…
hope the biker is ok
Ok “grim reaper”
So what happened I wonder people are blaming the motorcycle again when they don’t know what there talking about the road is for everyone not just cars .hope the motorcyclist is ok
Hope the motorcyclists is ok and all the negative comments to the motorcyclists you should be ashamed of yourself.
Idiot car drivers with no patients or intelligence every body should have to do two years on a motorcycle as a learner before being allowed to learn how to drive properly and have a psychological invalidation when they start to learn how to drive a car as 95% of driver’s on this island at least think the rules of the road don’t apply to them and have an arrogant bad attitude and should not be allowed behind the wheel of a child’s go-cart never mind a two ton machine
Maybe a coincidence, but there was a diesel trail from Binstead to Newport early this morning. Not good in the wet on a bike.
What is it with all these diesel trails lately?
Is someone leaving them deliberately?
