4 teenagers have been arrested after yet another break-in to a derelict hotel in Sandown.
Last night (Thursday) South Wight Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) were out on patrol conducting checks as part of Operation Spider, when they responded to a break-in at the Parkbury Hotel site.
This recent incident is the latest in a long catalogue of break-ins at various derelict hotels in Sandown.
Damage was being caused inside, and officers found a network of extension leads running up to the top floor and using hotel electricity. As police entered, one individual ran at officers armed with a wooden pole.
2 14-year-old boys and 2 16-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of burglary and abstracting electricity without permission, with 1 of these boys also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
A spokesperson from the force has said:
“At this time and while we make other enquiries, the boys have been bailed until this Sunday at which stage they will be spoken to again by officers as we progress the investigation.
“We are working closely with the hotel owners already to secure the site and get to the root of the issues. In the meantime while that work is ongoing, we continue to ask people to keep reporting any concerns and issues to us so we can take action against the group involved in the damage and anti-social behaviour.”

Don’t let these feral scumbags off with pointless warnings, heavily fine the parents for not keeping their brats under control.
They have squatters rights the parents are not to blame. The derlict hotels need to be made into cheap housing. The parents have no control because some kids will not be controlled. Some people are homeless there is someone sleeping rough at the battery cliff gardens. Who can Blame anyone for using the building I would squat there if I was homeless. Perhaps these kids are homeless.
Correction if they broke and entered they do not have squatters rights but these derlict buildings are needed by homeless people.
Why is the power still connected if derelict?
To keep the burglar alarm functioning…….Silly !
make them into flats for troubled Londoners or sex offenders as need to be rehomed
Which room do you want?
You are a wind up merchant’ or a complete tit. Or maybe both?
We have over 2,500 Island family units on our IOW housing list, why look any further?
If the hotel is derelict, how come the electricity supply is still on, and who will pay the bill ?
So police in person advise the public to keep reporting incidents, shame that Hampshire police control avoid taking calls and or don’t deploy officers!. Has anyone tried calling 101 ?.
The Police attended and arrested 4 children. 14 year olds and 16 year olds.
I think it’s terrible. Their parents should be made to pay for the repairs to the building.
I agree with your comment but the owners of these derelict properties should be made to make them secure and to check on them weekly
if not there should be powers to take them into council ownership and to develop the sites into affordable housing for working people
As the children are underage then name the parents. After all the parents are responsible for their brats actions.
Put the children into public stocks along with their parents. Just imagine being filmed looking like a plonker and shared across social media. I’m sure the embarrassment would influence change immediately.
The parents shouldn’t be allowed to breed, they are probably worse than the kids…
These kids are out of control. The parents really can’t control them. If they could they wouldn’t be out in the streets
Their parents are responsible for keeping their brats out of trouble. Step up and start being responsible parents. It’s really not the Police’s job to baby sit your kids!
I would be angry, mortified, upset, let down if the Police bought my kids home. I wouldn’t let them out for a month, only to go to school then straight back home. But hey, some parents don’t seem to discipline their kids these days, that’s why so many run wild on the streets up to God knows what! Not an acceptable situation.
Bad parenting, as usual, probably were kids with kids when these were born…
People should stop being paid by the state to have kids, nor given a home because you have a child or children.
IF you can’t afford it, use free contraception or abort.
IF you have a hard, miserable life and live hand to mouth, how selfish to then inflict that life onto an innocent child. So with that in mind, seems to me that many have kids to ‘better’ their own lives, and care nothing for the child, hence it grows up unloved, uncared for and feral as we see here.
Sad that there is no shame in thick girls getting pregnant now, as their used to be, now they are seen as the victim, not the reason why crime, overcrowding and the Island is filled with vile beings.
Don’t blame the parents punish these louts and make it a strong punishment or they will go on to be bigger prat’s in the future we must make an example of these kids to show others this type of behaviour will not go by a smack on the wrist .
