32-year-old Kye Malin has been handed a 12-month driving ban after being caught drug driving back in June of this year – a journey that also saw him receive 8 penalty points for other offences at an earlier court hearing.
Malin, of Stower Place in Sandown, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to drug driving – 5 months after his last appearance.
The court heard from the Crown Prosecution Service that on 25th June this year Malin was stopped by Police whilst they were searching for an individual in the Ventnor area. In a case of mistaken identity, Malin’s VW Golf was pulled over. However, officers soon identified that Malin had no licence or insurance. They also suspected him of being impaired through drugs.
A roadside drugs wipe was conducted and indicated a positive result for cannabis. Bloods were taken and sent off for analysis.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, said that Malin also gave officers false details but later admitted to PC Tasker that he had done so and that those details were his brother’s. It was found that Malin had an expired provisional licence.
Barry Arnett, defending, explained that his client – a house husband with 3 children – had been playing poker and cannabis was being passed around. Mr Arnett said that it had been a ‘shock to the system’ that Malin needed.
The 32-year-old appeared in court in July for using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. He was given 8 penalty points and fined £120. However, it wasn’t until Tuesday that the matter of drug driving was brought before the court.
Magistrates, who heard that Malin had previously been in court for driving whilst disqualified in October 2019, was given a 12-month driving disqualification and fined £120, as well as being ordered to pay a £34 surcharge.

Proving as I said, that most would be truly shocked at the amount of people now doing hard drugs and driving. Not just the dregs of soceity but working people and proffessional classes.
Like CV a growing permanent affliction on our society now, for the rest of time.
Quite. I have noticed how drug use has become more widespread over the last couple of years, one can smell it throughout our village now and there are quite a few druggies types around. – Yes, one can often see individuals who have clearly been damaged through drug abuse – feel sorry for them, for they surely would not have embarked on a course of drug use if they had known of it’s damaging effects.
We have also seen children become users – they have all been supplied by youths going round on motorbikes most evenings. Local residents, including myself have repeatedly reported this to the police, but they have never challenged those engaging..
don’t feel sorry for them they know what they getting themselves into!
Clearly a person of little or no morals or respect. He was a disqualified unqualified driver, who clearly was still using a vehicle on our roads. Throw drugs into the mix just proves the aforementioned. Such an irresponsible father of 3 who acts in this manner should not be left in charge 3 kids whom no doubt travelled in his vehicle. Would he feel so proud of his continuing law flouting had another drugged up uninsured unqualified driver caused an accident that put his children in hospital or worse.
Wonder how lenient the courts would be towards a drugged up unlicensed person constantly walking around with a 12 bore!
And, of course, you and I are meanwhile paying the benefits for this scum to fritter away!
is house husband a glittered way of saying he’s a dole bum?
