A 51-year-old man from Milton Keynes has been charged with drink driving following a crash in Cowes last night (Saturday).
As first reported by Island Echo, 3 vehicles were damaged in the late night collision on Newport Road, close to the doctor’s surgery.
By chance, Police happened to come across the crash just moments after it had happened. The assistance of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and later Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was requested.
Hampshire Constabulary has now charged a man in connection with this incident.
Nicholas Steven Smith of Witan Gate, Milton Keynes has been charged with drink driving. He has been bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 7th May.

The current Government guidelines state: “You should continue to minimise the amount you travel where possible. This means you should avoid making unnecessary trips and combine trips where possible” So, what reason did someone have to be here from Milton Keynes driving around at midnight?
Pissed out of his head holiday maker…
Obviously been to a pub, and of course now the police could and should track him.
Will the sentence reflect the drink driving and all the damage done, unlikely 🙁
Where was he staying???? Hotel or 2nd homeowner…. and everyone has been criticising island drivers, well not this time, hope they throw the book at this idiot.
Probably on holiday – rules have changed people can now stay in caravans , self catering, tented camp sites providing they are in their own bubble/household. There are a lot of holiday makers here already including from overseas – even though we can’t travel overseas….
Expect another lockdown come october or maybe even sooner then, now we have a new double mutant virus from india over here in the UK.
