UPDATED: Heavy rain and blustery gales have resulted in the closure of Middle Road at Calbourne this afternoon (Friday).
Police have shut the road between Calbourne crossroads (Elm Lane) and Betty Haunt Lane – near The Blacksmith Arms – due to flooding and standing water.
Meanwhile in Newport, Fairlee Road is reported to be barely passable due to flooding near the junction with Island Harbour. Traffic is backing up in both directions.
Island Echo readers are reporting that Military Road near Compton is also significantly flooded.
Motorists are advised to avoid these locations and seek alternative routes.
UPDATE @ 18:45 – With the rain having eased, it is understood that all roads have now re-opened.
Motorists should continue to take care on the Island’s roads with surface water and potential debris still a hazard.
