A plastic dustpan left on top of a wood burner led to a call out to Haylands for Ryde firefighters yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
2 appliances – 1 wholetime and 1 retained – and an officer were mobilised by fire control at just before 16:00 following reports of a fire at a terraced property on Monterey Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the alert had been caused by plastic being left on a stove – namely a plastic dustpan that had been left on top of a wood burner.
The area was dampened down and the melted plastic removed from the property. Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear lingering smoke.
The incident was brought to a close at just gone 16:30.
