A man was tasered after he pushed a Police Officer in Gunville last month, a court has heard.
Lewis Dewick, 34, of no fixed abode, admitted a single count of assault a PC when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday 9th September).
Prosecuting, Lauren McConnell, told the court on the afternoon of 10th August, Police received reports of a male on a moped who appeared to be under the influence. Officers located Dewick on Gunville Crescent and approached him, taking the keys from his grasp.
The court heard how Dewick began to resist detainment and pushed against the officers’ chest.
With Dewick becoming irate and shouting in the face of those trying to control him, another officer pulled out a taser and used it to subdue Dewick, who fell to the floor.
Despite the ordeal, no injuries were sustained by the officer involved.
At the time of his arrest, Dewick was also arrested on suspicion of further offences, but just the single charge was put to him in court.
Defending the 34-year-old, Michael McGoldrick, told the court that his client was startled by the officer who grabbed the keys but that he accepted pushing him several times.
Magistrates handed Dewick, who is imminently due to start a new job, a £120 fine. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge fee.
