A Ryde man who caused damage to his mum’s ceiling after he threw a can of energy drink has been fined more than £1,000.
27-year-old Connor Cragg, of St Johns Road, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday) where he pleaded guilty to criminal damage and common assault.
The court heard how on 17th March, Cragg visited his mother’s house with his partner and 2 children. He walked into another room, followed by his mother, which led to Cragg becoming increasingly angry and walking out.
A verbal altercation ensued in which Cragg was asked to leave the property – something he refused to do. The court heard how Cragg’s mother feared violence as a result of his actions, which included clenching his fist.
Moments later, Cragg picked up a can of Monster and threw it at the ceiling, causing damage of value unknown.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick said that upon entry to the property, Cragg was confronted with a wave of bad memories from what was described as an ‘traumatic childhood’. He also stated that Cragg accepted that his actions were ‘reckless’ rather than deliberate.
Magistrates fined Cragg £1,038 and ordered him to pay a £415 surcharge fee, £85 costs and £100 compensation.
A 12-month restraining order, banning Cragg – a blade engineer – from contacting his mum, was also imposed.
