MAN THREATENED TO EJACULATE OVER GIRLS AFTER RACIALLY ABUSING ONE OF THEM COURT HEARS

A mainland man who aimed a tirade of verbal and offensive abuse at a group of women on Ryde Seafront in June – but claims he can’t remember doing so – has seen his case sent to the Crown Court.

Alan Cassells, 44, of Teglease Gardens, Clanfield pleaded guilty to 2 counts of using threatening words or behaviour to cause alarm or distress, 1 count of racially aggravated harassment and 1 count of possession of a controlled drug (Class B).

Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on 6th June, a group of girls were sitting on the sea wall down at Ryde Seafront. They were approached by Cassells, who had been drinking, with the 44-year-old making noises and shouting in their direction.

Cassells called 1 of the females ‘Irn Bru’ – because of her ginger hair – and directed racially aggravated comments to another calling her a ‘jihadi’. The Scot, who lives in Waterlooville, also made remarks of a very crude sexual nature to the females in the party claiming he would ejaculate down their throats.

He was arrested by Police shortly after and taken to Newport Police station where he was interviewed. In his possession, officers also found cannabis.

In his initial interview, Cassells said he hoped that he hadn’t done what he was arrested on suspicion of as he couldn’t remember any of it.

Defending him, Michael McGoldrick, said his client has suffered a one-off relapse on that date and that he still didn’t have any recollection of the incident. He added that the 44-year-old was shocked and appalled by his actions.

Magistrates deemed their powers insufficient to sentence Cassells in the Magistrates Court, with the 44-year-old released on conditional bail to appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 22nd November.
