A man attempting to walk between Shanklin and Ventnor has been rescued after becoming cut off by the tide at Luccombe.
It was at around 13:15 this afternoon (Saturday) that HM Coastguard was alerted to the walker’s plight, with a reported location given as the inaccessible Luccombe Bay.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was immediately tasked to the area, with Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat paged to launch.
It didn’t take long for Bembridge’s Tamar-class lifeboat to arrive on scene, with the smaller Y-Boat deployed in choppy waters to reach the casualty located on the rocks.
He has found himself in difficulty due to a rising tide, leaving him no where to go.
Thankfully, the conditions allowed for a safe extrication by sea with the man swiftly transferred into the daughter boat and then onto the lifeboat, before being taken back to Bembridge Lifeboat Station.
The incident has now concluded.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
