Major work is being carried out on The Needles Lighthouse in the West Wight this week.
Trinity House – who will be completing the work – is a charity dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers, providing education, support and welfare to the seafaring community.
The company also carries out regular maintenance on the iconic lighthouse.
It is planned that a new door will be fitted and an interior renovation will be carried out.
As a result, transport ships will be present in the area and regular helicopter manoeuvres will be taking place between the headland and the lighthouse.
Visitors to The Needles Old Battery will be treated to views of the helicopter taking off and landing as it transports heavy equipment from the ship to the lighthouse.
Trinity house has said that it is part of a modernisation project which will update navigation aids, and electrical and mechanical systems to the latest standards and remove obsolete equipment.
