A young farmer from the Isle of Wight Young Farmers Club (YFC) has been named as a NFU South representative on the NFU’s new Student & Young Farmer Ambassadors 2024 cohort. Sian Grove, 26, is a first-generation, part-time shepherdess. Despite being new to the industry, Sian is fast becoming known within the Island’s farming community for her work as Secretary of the Royal Isle of Wight County Show, and Gilten Market, as well as being Chairwoman of the IOW Young Farmers Club. She is also gaining a following online through her social media – @sians_woolly_wonders. Sian joins Sophia Ashe as 1 of the 2 representatives for the South in the 2024 cohort. The pair fought off several quality candidates to gain a position on the industry’s coveted programme which will see them attend events at parliament, learn more about the industry from peers, and undertake training days. With a forthcoming UK General Election and an ongoing need to keep food and farming front of mind amid a busy political and media agenda, the Student & Young Farmer ambassadors will play a vital role in telling the story and value of British farming to the public.
