Local business owner Jamie Webster is to take on the Lapland Husky Trail in aid of Mountbatten Isle of Wight, a charity very close to his heart.
Launched by Mountbatten just weeks ago, the opportunity will see Jamie traverse 240km of Swedish terrain with a team of huskies. The mega-journey will finish at Sweden’s famous ice hotel.
Jamie, who owns drain clearing and repair business Renodrain, was quick to put his hand up and commit to taking on the challenge which will see him raise vital funds for a charity that, in his own words, “truly matters”.
Jamie’s challenge takes place in the icy landscape between Kiruna and Gällivare where temperatures reach a lowly -13c.
By signing up to the challenge, Jamie has committed to raising more than £5,700, something he hopes to achieve with the help of the Island community.
Speaking on the challenge, Jamie has said:
“This challenge means more to me than just an adventure, it’s in honour of my Dad who I lost a few months ago and in gratitude for the palliative care and end-of-life care my Mum received, l have decided to take on the Lapland Husky Trail challenge.
“This is a personal way for me to give back and help raise funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight, an organization that makes such a difference.
“I’m hoping to not only complete this challenge but to raise vital funds that will support others in need of compassionate palliative care, end-of-life care and supporting people affected by death, dying and bereavement across the Island. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful impact.
“Thank you for your support, and for helping me honour my Mum and Dad’s memory by supporting a cause that truly matters.
Anyone wishing to donate to the cause can do so here.
Well done to Jamie, the island needs more Jamie’s.
