Festival goers and those enjoying everything else the Isle of Wight has to offer are being urged to SLIP SLAP SLOP this weekend, with 30c heat expected on Friday.
A Level 3 heat alert has been issued by IW Met Service for parts of the Island tomorrow, with the entire Island under a Level 2 alert.
Those out in the sunshine, including revellers at the Isle of Wight Festival, should slip on a shirt, slap on a hat and slop on sun cream.
Forecasters say that today will be another fine and very warm day across the Island, but increasing amounts of high, thin cloud will make the sunshine very hazy at times, especially this afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to hit 26-27c in central and northern parts. A Level 1 heat alert is in force, UV 7.
On Friday, high and thin cloud during the morning will give way to unbroken sunshine during the afternoon. It will be very warm with temperatures sitting at 24-26c across most of the Island and up to 30c in a few locations. UV 8.
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, says:
“At Level 3 a significant amount of people will start to really notice the heat in direct sunlight, especially if the winds are light. Susceptible people are at risk of heat stroke at these temperatures and even in the shade, it may be difficult to find relief, although if there is a good breeze shaded areas will feel comfortable”.

Oh no its summer. Now heat warnings….. never had any problems in 76.
There were over 20% excess deaths in the summer of 1976, 1000 of them directly related to the heat, so yes, there was a problem in 1976 along with every time there is hot weather, and that is the whole point of the “alerts” so that people can avoid the heat and find themselves a much cooler spot on our little island……if they are able to.
