Strike action may have been called off on the ferries, but Royal Mail workers are today (Wednesday) continuing their walk out in what is another dispute over pay.
Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are striking across the UK including at Ryde, Sandown and Newport sorting offices. More than 115,000 union members are on strike nationwide.
Back in February, the CWU contacted the Royal Mail Group seeking an adjustment in wages amidst the cost of living crisis. It was at this time also that the company announced a £758million profit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The original date for the implementation of the pay rise was due to be April, however, the company failed to arrange a meeting until well into the month. The reward from those in charge during those meetings, was to table an offer for no pay rise unless the union agreed with some extremely specific demands.
Members of the union originally asked for a pay rise of 9% to offset the rising cost of living and inflation – a demand that Royal Mail refused.

Since this time they have imposed a 2% pay award – which the union hasn’t accepted – and a further 3.5% on top of the original 2%. but the extra 3.5% is dependent on certain conditions – something workers don’t feel happy with.
Further strike days are planned for Thursday 8th and Friday 9th September.
Letters will not be delivered on strike days and some parcels will be delayed, Royal Mail warns. However, the company says it aims to delivery as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as it can, with priority also given to COVID tests.

Not much support for the riverway crew this morning, not one honk.
Maybe it’s all wearing a bit thin?
I don’t know if you were part of the Riverway Crew, or a passer by, we had a well supported picket line in Sandown, with lots of encouragement from the public.
How will we know that they are on strike? They don’t deliver daily anyway.
Yawn , boring comment
Tosh
Put all these company staff who join a union and strike on minimum wage, they’ll soon realise what a good wage they were on.
You don’t know what you are talking about, right?
That’s discrimination, please do some research
I’m in a union on min wage, like many others
Don’t give into these greedy strikers.Lucky to be paid for just walking about
Spoken like someone who has never done the job
Hi:- l am a postie who works in Easton, Bristol and l was on the licket line today..its not us being greedy for a decent wage its other employers who should be paying a liveable wage.
There we were working through the pandemic, heats that would fry our skin with really little or no thought from the higher archy in the Royal Mail.
We deserve more thought and respect from ‘the men in suits’ – and we are frontline staff who face the community day in day out and keep the company in going.
We own our patch (rounds, duties) and do our job with pride.
l’d like to see the CEO (whatever his name is) do it.
So, well done to us all.
Greedy! Lucky!……What planet are you living on? have you ever thought about joining the Human Race? you may learn a lot from talking to other people, broaden your mind, understand the conversation.
At the moment, you are a little confused.
They get good money for what they do they just joining band wagon for payrise and I do no this before someone says I don’t know
Just like you are joining the band wagon of knocking people yeah ? Jog on
These guys do a great job. Didn’t see you slag them off during lockdown while most people were at home on furlough. Best thing since slice bread back then. They had no choice but to put themselves into harm’s way. Just because courier companies pay crap wages doesn’t it’s ok. Up the workers . I fully support them , good luck guys.
Royal Mail staff deserve a decent pay rise
Keep up the good work
