How comes the old boy (62 yrs) gets a lower fine and 16 months ban and the young laddies (24, 23, 18 yrs) get big fines, community orders and longer bans? Old people have loads more money on this Island!
If you had bothered to read, you would have noticed that only two were convicted of drink driving and the 62 year old was 14 over the limit while the 24 year old was 52 over the limit and that is reflected in their punishments.
The 18 year old was convicted of drug driving which has its own tariff as does failing to provide a specimen, which is what the 23 year old was convicted of.
Drink driving on the Island is rife, stronger penalties are needed for
Drink driving.
I totally agree and for drug drivers too. Maybe offenders cars should be taken off them and impounded for the length of the ban. A storage charge applied and if not paid the car is crushed or auctioned off , and the sale proceeds go to public funds. This should be in addition to any other penalties .
Currently the law is not being respected by those who drive while drunk of drugged.
younie and turnbull – what a surprise – a pair of low lives
shut up Boring
they are though – pair of dirty, scummy low lives
So it’s ok to potentially murder innocent people then! Is that being boring to condemn these evil idiots? Different if they xxxx your family or you up … moron
Can anybody tell me what the “unpaid work” is?
What on earth can they be trusted to do, who administers it etc.
It’s where you see them on side of the road doing things for the community I. E litter picking or painting
Not litter picking, that’s too dangerous, certainly not on the beach – imagine what happens when the tide comes in. Normally it’s working in a charity shop sorting out the donated clothes.
Unpaid work is administered by the Probation Service I believe and should be called Community Service or Community Payback. The offenders can be asked to do quite a few different things for the community, such as removing graffiti, clearing wasteland, and painting buildings. Any failure to comply with the unpaid work requirements will see the offender sent back to court, and usually a harsher sentence applied or imprisonment.

I was painting a children’s play area, I.e. railings, brickwork etc. I also went to a church to help with the upkeep of the property, I.e. painting, landscaping etc. Also another church where I cleared mounds of leaves from the carpark and made the outside of the (derelict) toilets in the car park look like it is not such an eyesore. The probation team are fantastic and it is “community” payback. Places like churches etc don’t have the resources to upkeep the grounds and this type of system helps them out a lot.
