This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

• Andrew Basile, 40, of Canning Court, Newport – drove a vehicle on Leeson Road, Ventnor, at 35mph in a 30mph zone. He pleaded guilty and received no separate penalty, with his driving record endorsed without points. On the same date, he was also sentenced for driving without a licence after its refusal on medical grounds. He was fined £138, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £55 surcharge, and received 3 penalty points.
• Angela Sullivan, 47, of St Georges Road, Shanklin – admitted three separate counts of shop theft from TK Maxx in Newport, dated 24 April, 25 April, and 8 July 2025. She received a community order with 12 rehabilitation days for each case and was ordered to pay a total of £500 in compensation. Each offence was sentenced together on the same date.
• Kasra Esmaily, 28, of HMP Isle of Wight – pleaded guilty to two offences of possessing a mobile phone inside prison without authority on separate occasions (2 July and 4 July 2025). He received two concurrent custodial sentences of 8 weeks each.
• Gino Randall, 37, of Dubbers, Godshill – admitted stealing £100 worth of food and alcohol from Waitrose in East Cowes. He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs, a £32 surcharge, and £100 compensation.
• Wayne Mitchell, 36, of Meadow Court, Edenthorpe, Doncaster – pleaded guilty to assaulting two police constables in separate incidents in Sandown and Newport on 19 March 2025. No separate penalty was imposed.
• Kane Hutchings, 20, of George Street, Ryde – found guilty in absence of failing to wear a seatbelt as a passenger in Newport. He was fined £220 and ordered to pay £85 costs and an £88 surcharge.
• Matthew Sutherland, 40, of Fitzroy Street, Sandown – sentenced for three separate offences. For stalking involving fear of violence between 18 and 27 June 2024, he received a 12-month suspended sentence, 20 rehabilitation activity days, a restraining order until 2031, and was ordered to pay a £187 surcharge. He also admitted outraging public decency on 18 April 2025 in Shanklin by indecent exposure and was given an 8-week suspended sentence. In a third case, he used threatening behaviour causing distress to a woman in Ryde on 20 June 2025 and was sentenced to another 8-week suspended term. All suspended sentences run concurrently, with a total supervision period of 18 months.
• Mark Williamson, 35, of Carisbrooke Road, Newport – failed to provide a blood specimen when suspected of a driving offence at Newport Police Station. He was disqualified for 36 months, fined £423, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £169 surcharge. A community order with 15 rehabilitation activity days was also imposed.
• Bailey Exposite, 25, of Trinity Road, Ventnor – pleaded guilty to damaging a glass door panel at Ventnor Royal British Legion. He was fined £60 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £500 in compensation.
