It is currently unclear what has sparked the significant response, although one local has told Island Echo that an ambulance was present on Westlake Avenue earlier on today.

The NPAS helicopter was called in at 11:15 when the male made off from officers.

The suspect has not yet been detained, but enquiries continue.

Police have now left the area.
