Motorists face significant travel disruption on Monday when Kite Hill, the main road connecting Ryde and Newport, is closed.
Openreach is due to undertake essential works to the telecommunications network between Wootton Bridge and Fishbourne Lane from 09:30 on Monday 25th November. A road closure is set to be in force in both directions.
It means that those travelling between the Island’s largest towns – and those heading to or from the mainland via Wightlink’s Fishbourne terminal – will have to divert via The Downs.
The closure is expected to be in place all day on Monday and overnight into Tuesday morning, re-opening at 05:00 on 26th November.
Southern Vectis says it will not be running its Route 4 buses at all and significant diversions will be in place on Route 9 buses, but shuttle buses will be in operation from both Newport (to Wootton) and Ryde (to Fishbourne).
All Route 9 buses will divert from Newport Bus Station via Staplers Road, then run non-stop from Landscape Lane via Long Lane, Downs Road and Brading, then dropping off/picking up in Marlborough Road, East Hill Road and Esplanade to Ryde Transport Interchange.
Route 9 from Ryde will operate as normal to John Street then drop off / pick up via West Street, Green Street, St Johns Road and Marlborough Road, then non-stop via Brading, Downs Road and Long Lane, to Landscape Lane where it will drop off/pick up to Newport Bus Station.
Shuttle buses from Newport Bus Station to Wootton Tesco will operate every 20 minutes between 09:20 and 18:00 (at 00, 20 and 40 minutes past the hour), then every 30 minutes between 18:00 and 00:30 (at 00 and 30 minutes past the hour). Shuttle buses from Wootton Tesco to Newport Bus Station will operate every 20 minutes between 09:40 and 18:00 (at 00, 20 and 40 minutes past the hour), then every 30 minutes between 18:15 and 00:45 (at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour).
A shuttle bus will also operate from Ryde Transport Interchange to Fishbourne Lane from 09:30 until 00:30 (at 00 and 30 minutes past the hour). A shuttle bus will operate from Fishbourne Lane to Ryde Transport Interchange from 09:44 until 00:44 (at 14 and 44 minutes past the hour)

With Storm Bert on it’s way, make sure all the
Numpty workers carrying out such works place
Sandbags etc on the signs, same applies to
Island Roads works and SGN etc, otherwise signs will
be blown all over the place causing obstructions and
making roads dangerous for everyone.
