Junior Doctors working at St Mary’s Hospital have joined national strike action today (Wednesday).
For the second time in as many months, the Junior Doctors have taken to a picket line outside the Newport hospital. The 24-hour walk out, which started at 08:00 this morning, comes due to proposed changes to their contracts.
Talks between the British Medical Association and the Government failed to reach a positive conclusion yesterday.
The Juniors will only provide emergency care until 08:00 Thursday morning. As a result, almost 3,000 operations have been cancelled nationally.
GP practices across the Island remain open as normal.
