Students from an Island school walked away with a prestigious award at a regional science fair.
The three-strong team from Carisbrooke College impressed the judges at the Big Bang South East fair at the start of the month with their project “Design and Build of an R/C Model Powerboat,” and Tesla Engineering Prize for Product Design.
Students David Craig, Jaq Dyer and Elliott Davison were presented with their award by Professor Andrew Lloyd, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Brighton.
Judges at the fair, which was held at the South of England Showground in West Sussex, praised the students’ creative and innovative skills and the high quality of their presentation.
The Big Bang South East, which is the biggest event of its kind in the region and was this year attended by over 4,000 9-19 year olds, was organised by STEM Sussex, the outreach support department of the University of Brighton, in partnership with Crawley Borough Council and Central Sussex College.
Principal sponsors of the event are Crawley-based CGG, the world’s leading geophysical company.
