Monks from Quarr Abbey have taken a special Isle of Wight exhibition to the heart of London after it opened at a famous Mayfair church.
Last summer, the abbey hosted an exhibition organised by the Friends of Quarr featuring reproductions from the National Gallery showcasing the life of Mary, Mother of Christ.
During a visit to Quarr, Father Dominic Robinson SJ of the Catholic Church in Mayfair — commonly known as Farm Street — invited the monks to bring the exhibition to London.
This month, the collection of 24 paintings has gone on display at the church’s gallery in Mayfair.
The exhibition was officially launched with an evening featuring antiphons, chants and poetry from Isle of Wight writer Edmund Matyjaszek, who also held a residency at Quarr Abbey last summer.
Guests at the launch included a representative of the Papal Nuncio, the Pope’s diplomatic representative in England.
The exhibition will remain on display at Farm Street until the end of May. Another exhibition exploring related themes is planned at Quarr Abbey later this summer.
