ISLE OF WIGHT MAN CHARGED OVER ALLEGED RACIAL HATE CRIME IN RYDE

23-year-old Lachen Downs will spend Christmas behind bars and will appear at the Crown Court in January accused of a racially motivated hate crime in Ryde earlier this month.

Police received a report that on the evening of 10th November that a man was pushed to the floor on Ryde High Street and subjected to racist abuse.

It’s alleged that the victim was then further assaulted.

Lachen Connor Downs, of no fixed abode, has now been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday). At the hearing, he was further remanded to appear at the Crown Court on 4th January 2022.
