The government has announced that Working Tax Credits payments have been increased by £1,045 this week.
As part of a number of measures to support the country during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the basic element of Working Tax Credit has been increased by £1,045 to £3,040 from 6th April 2020 until 5th April 2021.
The amount a claimant or household will benefit from will depend on their circumstances, including their level of household income. But the increase could mean up to an extra £20 each week for Island families.
The government is also uprating Child Benefit, other tax credits rates and thresholds, and Guardian’s Allowance by 1.7% with effect from 6th April 2020. You can read the full list of Rates and Allowances here.
These increases came into effect on Monday, but individual payment dates will vary depending on circumstances.
You don’t have to take any action and you will receive any increased payments automatically.

Yet pensioners, self employed and those who have not bred more clones to add to the burden on the state of educating and treating them get nothing extra.
Why do these people need more cash? They can’t be spending more as their council tax has been helped, they can’t just take the clones to amusement parks, Mc D’s, or buy them tat now.
Those in work claiming had reduced council tax anyway, and either had rent or mortgage breaks too.
Seems crazy to pay them ever more, just for producing extra burdens for the future.
More dope smoke now then, more drunken parties, for the decent to endure as these scroungers receive more cash, less expense which elevates them above many working people, just have to ‘do’ 20 hours a week to get ‘given’ everything.
So, when you work full time, in a risky job, this will help you cope, knowing you are providing the charity to fund others one night stands results.
Fully agree
Our so called gov and council have really shown there true colours over the last few weeks
But it has put my mind at rest know as i no who never to trust or help in any way what so ever
Not everyone on benefits is like that, my Mum works in Tesco, so she’s a key worker right now. Her husband is self employed and off work, they get tax credits, and this will help a lot! And with her husband at home not working she’s trying to pick up more hours to help make up what they’re missing.
Or there’s my boyfriend’s Mum, who doesn’t work full time because she’s had cancer and literally can’t, she works in co-op, also a key worker, she’s on benefits too. She’s only ever had 1 kid and he’s 35 now, so it has nothing to do with “clones”.
Im not saying everyone on benefits works hard, or has special circumstances, but you can’t just lump everyone in together as scroungers.
Im not sure who your reply is for but i never said anything about what you wrote
And most people know there are people out there doing the very best they can do to make ends meet.
You put fully agree so obviously it was to you aswell and you harry wade ignorant horrible person putting people down who claim tax credits you key board warrior BORED IN LOCKDOWN #
Agree with you too
Certainly no one can EVER lump every group totally ‘ as one’, it is all about the majority of a said group, and whilst there will be some who deserve extra now, they will be in a very small majority.
The point being, IF you claim tax credits, you don’t pay for prescriptions, you get free dental care, you only have to work 20 hours officially, many then ‘work’ cash in hand in other places as well.
You get subsidised rent, and council tax too.
My POINT is why pay them even more when getting the above anyway?
To be in work and EARN £20 extra, which would THEN be taxed and NI would rise, would mean you would have to work an extra THREE hours a week or more if on low wages, yet those who are already avoiding paying for the above, get such tax free, just for producing the nations future charity kept beings.
I have explained clearly why I think this is wrong, as expenses are lower now, the ability to take your children out and spend is far less as everywhere is closed, so why do YOU think people ‘need’ more cash now?
The Gov imo, should have paid the countries council tax for all, and paid a percentage of peoples water bills, as that way everyone would be helped, and with more washing and people being home water bills will be higher for all.
As always it is those who ‘choose’ or more often, have children from a drunken, drugged encounter who then get ‘paid’ for their choice or carelessness, and it is that, which I suggest is a high percentage of tax credit claims that really bugs those who work fully to support their families and have to put cash aside for home repair, boiler servicing, house insurance, etc, whereas those in receipt of tax credits need not pay such as normally all free.
So much money is then wasted on getting so.
Very well said Harry
Iv worked all of my adult life so 36 years and still going for it
But you know people reading this will just sit back laughing at the workers that pay for them to do what they like
And no i dont mean all of you but the ones that spunge you know who you are
Ha !
I’m afraid you are incorrect. Getting tax credits does not necessarily mean you get free prescriptions, dental care etc. My family get tax credits but myself and my husband both work and pay full price for everything, including council tax and rent. With my husband now off work we have lost a significant portion of our income so the tax credits increase will simply help us to pay our bills until he is able to get back to work when our tax credit amount will drop back down again.
Ooh, you were going so well there at the beginning! People need money to pay bills that still need paying. With everyone at home costs rise – Utilities, loo rolls, food, coffe & tea, stationary for school work, indoor games to keep the kids busy & defo headache pills! There are many more costs involved with a family staying home.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the child catcher for the queen who didn’t like children. Do you know her?
We are self employed from our home and are caterers. Our total income has stopped we get a little extra with working tax credit not much we cannot furlough and every little helps. My wife and I have both worked from the age of 15. And we have to still wait for my wife pension as the goalposts keep moving. So to us That 20.00 pound will help. We still pay council tax and water rates which we have no help with that. You try to live on approx 250 a month with a mortgage and bills.
Waste of space matey
Totally agree
Don’t believe every documentary or newspaper article that you see about those in receipt of Benefits. I was a self sufficient thirty something with my own home & car, running my own businesses. Then one day in the early hours I awoke with such excruciating pain all over my body that i couldn’t even move. And that was that. My life would never be the same again. I am now a seriously ill woman, wheelchair bound & reliant on state benefits to survive. I’m not rich. I can’t afford takeaways. I don’t holiday at Butlins, I don’t holiday at all. I don’t swig cans of lager or have the latest 80″ tv! You are stereotyping. What happened to me could happen to anyone, even you. These days many, many families are living hand to mouth, paycheque by paycheque & end up with no choice but to reach out for help. There’s no point having a go at others when they know no better & may never have come into contact with people on benefits – all i ask is that you try to open your mind & see things from a different perspective.
Take care out there
I think you need to learn about how tax credits work. There are plenty of people in full time work who are entitled to tax credits. They ger of their backsides and do as much as any other worker it’s just their pay is low. Not everyone claiming tax credits is a dope smoking scrounger
All heart you mate aren’t you
Excuse me I have 5 children. My husband and I work so dont receive any of these extra benefits. Pleaseeee refrain from being rude. Some people have worked years and are now out of work. My husband is still working while the majority of his factory have been sent home on 80% he then has travel expenses to and from work while I am home alone. My oldest son is a key worker so please dont tar everyone with the same brush.
How rude, harry wade , you are obviously getting a little upset by the looks of things ,
You’re a bit misinformed. I claim but do not get reduced council tax. I pay my rent barr £7 of it a week. My wages now don’t cover rent etc. However not everybody is getting this extra £20. I know I’m not. So where it says everybody is getting it, that’s a bit of a lie.
I pays to be on benefit now end off no point killing myself
