Once again there was great support for the Island’s independent lifeboats on Go Orange Day yesterday (Friday), which helps raise funds for the life-saving charities of Ryde Inshore Rescue, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (SSILB) and Freshwater Independent Lifeboat.
The volunteer lifeboat crew from each station toured around the towns of Freshwater, Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin collecting vital donations along the way.
The crewman of SSILB visited Broadlea Primary School in Lake where teacher Mr Weir took a rather orange baked bean bath, much to the amusement of students. Collections took place in Regent Street and at Morrisons Lake throughout the day.
In Ryde, a large number of shops decorated their windows and dressed up in support of the annual fundraising event. Throughout the town a sea of orange was to be seen and in Costa, the male staff even donned tutus.
Businesses supporting Ryde Inshore Rescue included Hose Rhodes Dickson; Home; Framers; Pittis; Gladrags; Quackers about Craft; Elizabeth Smith Bridal; D’s Accessories; Fantastic Store; Toymaster; House of Zabre; The Leather and Suade Shop; Wight Deckades; Sainsbury’s; KYA; Hurst; The Lunch Stop; Gibbs & Gurnell; Costa; Hovertravel; Just Home; Peacocks; Barrow Boys and many more.
Hovertravel added a splash of colour to both their Southsea and Ryde terminals orange with displays, balloons, buckets, fancy dress and a cake sale.
