Locals Sammy Bridges and Kaylee Hargreaves have trained to become Sands Befrienders which will allow them to offer vital support to bereaved families across the Isle of Wight.
The duo – who have both sadly endured losses of their own – say they are ‘deeply committed’ to providing a safe space for those struggling to come to terms with their specific situation.
Sands is a charity dedicated to reducing the number of babies dying and providing support to anyone affected by the loss of a baby, whether before, during, or shortly after birth. This support is available regardless of when the loss occurred and can be utilised for as long as it is needed.
Sands works in partnership with health care professionals, trusts and health boards and offers a range of training programmes and bereavement care resources to ensure that every bereaved parent and family receives the best possible care wherever they are in the UK.
Starting in January, support groups will run on the second Monday of each month, from 18:00 to 20:00, at The Mall in Newport. These sessions will provide a safe, welcoming space for anyone affected by pregnancy or baby loss.
Many parents find that only those who have experienced such a loss can truly understand, and this is what the group aims to offer – a compassionate community.
Additionally, support can also be provided via email for those who may find it difficult to attend in person.
