The Isle of Wight is to be featured on a US TV show with more than a million regular viewers.
A film crew spent five days on the island last week filming an American family who have moved here and were searching for a permanent home.
House Hunters International is one of the most popular shows on US cable television drawing up to 1.5 million viewers per episode.
The crew was hosted by Wight Media Services, who liaised with producers in New York to ensure all film permits were cleared ahead of time and then accompanied them to help with filming across the Island.
Once the show is aired, which is expected to be in July, it will be licensed to other broadcasters worldwide bringing the Island to an even wider audience.
Dave Russell, Owner of Wight Media Services says:
“This programme is effectively a free thirty minute advert for the Isle of Wight that will be seen worldwide, potentially attracting foreign visitors across the Solent. While here the crew also helped towards the out of season economy spending several thousand pounds on hotels, food and professional services.
“I plan to continue promoting the Island to film crews and hope that some funding might be made available from Visit Isle of Wight’s D-Bid, assuming it goes ahead.”
Some of the locations filmed last week were homes in Newport, Shorwell and Cowes, along with a sunset at Compton Beach and scenes in St Thomas’ Square. The family was also filmed on train trip up Ryde Pier.
Local aerial imagery business Wight Drone was also called upon to provide stunning aerial shots of the Island’s stunning countryside and the homes being looked at.
