Isle of Wight born and winner of the 2020 keyboard section at the BBC Young Musician of the Year Thomas Luke will be performing Saint-Saëns’ second piano concerto with the Havant Symphony Orchestra (HSO) this September.
Having just completed his first year at the Royal College of Music, Thomas describes the concerto as ‘a dark and melodramatic piece, and so fun to play.’
At the event, which is to be held at the Hayling Island Community Centre on Saturday 16th September, conducting the orchestra will be James Thomas, the current holder of the Bob and Beryl Harding Bursary for Young Conductors.
Known as the ‘Popular Classics’ concert, accompanying the Saint-Saëns will be Mendelssohn’s overture ‘The Hebrides’, and Schumann’s ‘Spring’ No 1 Symphony.
Closer to home, Thomas will be performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concert No 2 in January 2024 with the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra.
