It’s been a successful end to a week of Rock Challenge at the Guildhall in Portsmouth, with a total of 3 Island schools taking part in Day 4 of the event which saw Christ the King College take the top spot on Thursday and Nettlestone Primary School taking a fantastic 2nd place on Friday in Day 1 of the J Rock competition.
3 schools – Christ the King College, Sandown Bay Academy and Ryde Academy – travelled across the Solent on Thursday to compete in Day 4 of the 2016 Be Your Best Portsmouth Rock Challenge, with the Carisbrooke-based Christ the King College taking 1st place with their performance ‘So very hideous an idea’.

Christ the King’s theme was a truly gothic piece that kept the audience glued to the stage. With spooky costumes and soundtrack they managed to clearly capture the famous poet’s Shelly and Byron and has qualified them through to the Southern Open Final held at Portsmouth Guildhall in June.
Thursday also saw the Southern Premier teams of Sandown Bay Academy and Ryde Academy showcasing at the event. Ryde Academy presented a piece based on the well-known villain of Aladdin ‘Jafar’. With their dazzling set and costumes Ryde told this unique tale with limitless energy. Sandown also created a fantasy theme named ‘The Power of Imagination’ based on a land called Terabitha. This was a striking performance that transported you on their tiresome journey through Terabithia.

On Friday, Nettlestone Primary School travelled to Portsmouth for Day 1 of the 2016 Be Your Best J Rock competition. Not only did they pick up an array of Awards of Excellence, but they treated the audience to a true visual delight and they placed second.
With impressive carnival props, costumes and designs Nettlestone took to the stage and produced a spectacular display to retell the story beyond Zeus’ gates.
