Following a centuries’ old tradition, there will be a local Proclamation to announce the accession to the throne of our new monarch, to be held in St Thomas’ Square Newport tomorrow (Sunday) at 13:00.
Residents are invited to join the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Kay Marriott, and His Majesty’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Brigadier Maurice Sheen CBE QVRM TD DL, in St Thomas’ Square, Newport, for the reading of the Proclamation at 13:00.
On the Island, flags will be raised at exactly 11:00 today (Saturday) which is the moment King Charles III is proclaimed King in London. Raising the flags marks a ‘celebration’ of the incoming sovereign.
Flags will remain fully raised until 13:15 on Sunday when the Proclamation of the King’s Accession will conclude in Newport.
Flags then return to half-mast and remain at half-mast until 08:00 on the day after the State Funeral when they return to full mast and fly as normal thereafter.
Books of Condolence have been opened at locations around the Island. Further details can be found on the council’s website.
An online Book of Condolence for those who wish to leave messages is available on the Royal website: https://www.royal.uk/send-message-condolence.

When do we have the vote?

Can’t be bothered – got better things to do
I’ve learnt something today, didn’t think you could ‘sign on’ at the weekend.
You don’t have to like the monarchy to have a bit of respect. Good job we live in a democracy and you are free to air your views without fear of redress.
I was always told if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all
