Island Line’s service between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin has been suspended this morning (Thursday) due to an electricity supply problem.
Trains are currently unable to operate on the Isle of Wight rail network, but engineers are working to identify and resolve the situation. Disruption is expected until 13:00 this afternoon.
Today’s suspension of service is the latest issue for Island Line with operators South Western Railway only able to run 1 train on the network due to an ongoing fault with the second train. It is currently unclear whether the infrastructure is to blame for the lack of supply, or whether the aging train is unable to receive the supply via the third rail.
Wightlink is advising customers to allow extra travel time to reach Ryde Pier Head.
UPDATE @ 12:15 – Island Line is now running again, albeit with a single train.
Trains will depart from Shanklin at XX:18 and from Ryde Pier Head at XX:49 until further notice. Disruption is expected until 21st December.

Have they paid the bill for last months juice?
This train problem is only going to get worse until we get the upgraded trains in 2021 (That is in the unlikely event the new rail project is completed on time).
For anybody needing to travel around or off The Island or indeed visiting, You have my complete and utter sympathy.
Island Line, Ferries, Hover and indeed the relentless amount of TTL and Roadworks are making it extremely difficult to travel to and from the Island and on the Island.
Some delays are excusable many are becoming extremely difficult to take or understand. There is a tremendous amount of underfunding and diabolical managerial standards causing needless problems for many people.
Someone needs to sort this out NOW.
Apparently the trains have been running normally
Isle of Wight Railway
Apparently the trains are all running normally. Just a short delay.
What do you mean by normally…
Once an hour….
Nothing for commuters and schoolchildren….
It’s getting up the pier, is the problem with no trains. i wouldn’t fancy walking a quarter of a mile out to sea in the weather we have today.
It’s probably been said before but a plan should be in place to run a bus shuttle to Esplande. They have had a couple of fire appliances on the pier from time to time so shouldn’t be a weight problem.
