Ryde-based businesswoman Dee Becker has today (Sunday) had her trademark blonde curly hair shaved off in front of well-wishers and supporters, all in the name of charity.
Dee will be taking on the 2016 Isle of Wight Ultimate Challenge – a 106km walk around the stunning coast of the Isle of Wight – throughout the day and night on the 30th April/1st May.
Dee’s aim is to raise awareness and the grand total of £6,000 for 3 inspiring charities who provide help and support to women affected by the personally devastating side-effects of cancer treatment; the Island’s Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Look Good Feel Better and mynewhair by Salons that Care.
To boost her fundraising campaign, this morning Dee had all her hair shaved off at Hovertravel’s Ryde terminal by Mia Woolfe of Level Hair and Beauty. In return for Hovertravel’s generous support, Dee will be having the distinctive blue and red Hovertravel logo painted on her head for the duration of the walk, and of course sported the design at today’s event.
The cross-Solent operator have generously donated £500 to Dee’s ‘Isle Walk for Miles’ fundraiser, with a cheque presented at the headshave by marketing manager, Loretta Lale.
Dee’s business focuses on presentation and communication and this includes helping people increase their self-esteem and confidence through improving their self-image and appearance.
Dee comments:
“Everyone has been touched in some way by cancer, which in itself can be daunting and life-changing. Women in particular have the added stress of the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment.
“I want to show my solidarity to those women who experience medical hair loss and to demonstrate that you can still look and feel great whether you choose to wear a personally styled wig or not”.
