The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, Police and HM Coastguard are responding to an emergency situation involving a child at The Needles this evening (Wednesday).
Medics have responded to Tennyson Down – the most westerly point on the Island – where it is understood a child has become injured.
The air ambulance has touched down at The Needles Battery, with flying doctors and paramedics now assessing the casualty. The HEMS team scrambled from their base in Andover at just before 19:00.
The extent of the injuries sustained is unknown at this time. It’s thought the incident has occurred near the Rocket Site.
HM Coastguard has 2 teams from The Needles and Ventnor responding to the scene.
Police are also in attendance.
UPDATE @ 19:59 – The air ambulance has now lifted off from the West Wight and is returning to base at Thruxton.
The casualty is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance. Their injuries are not thought to be serious, however.
All other resources are now standing down from the incident – less than an hour after the situation arose.

Well done to all Medical Personal involved.
Sorry, we are supposed to be a ‘First World’ Country…
WHY are the Air Ambulances paid by ‘charitable donations’ and not part of the ‘standard’ modern NHS?!
Oh, that’s right – multiple Millions (if not BILLIONS) of pounds are spent on Middle Managers and ‘trendy’ do not offend anyone RUBBISH!!
I know nurses who are living in one room bed and breakfast accommodation, with their children, while the NHS manager who bought the £750,000 house over the road from me lets it for £550 per night because she needs the money. Mainland money taking Island roofs from over the heads of local children. It’s not just Russians who make young ones homeless…
Thats disgusting. . Shouldn’t be managers as its not supposed to be a business. Should be good old fashioned matrons running the hospital. I know t he so called managers get high wages as I knew one a few years ago was on 70 k whereas the nurses got a fraction of that
