The Island’s independent lifeboat stations have received a much-welcomed cash boost totaling almost £62,000.
Ryde Inshore Rescue, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and Freshwater Independent Lifeboat will all benefit from the Government’s Inshore and Inland rescue boat grant scheme, which offers vital financial support to charitable organisations running local lifeboat and rescue boat services on and around the UK‘s inland and inshore waterways.
Ryde Inshore Rescue has been awarded £18,710, whilst Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has been awarded a massive £28,590. Freshwater Independent Lifeboat are to receive £14,633.
Maritime Minister Robert Goodwill, who is also the Ministerial Flood Recovery Envoy for Yorkshire, said:
“This funding recognises the enormous efforts of voluntary rescue boat teams and their tireless work in providing 24/7 services during emergencies and extreme weather.
“These groups often rely on charitable donations to sustain their operations. This additional funding will make a real difference to them and the communities they serve, enabling them to buy the essential equipment and training which will save more lives and keep crews safe”.
