Irish Businesses Go for a Full Work From Home Strategy
With rising demand, caused in part by the influx of refugees, and insufficient supply despite Government efforts of the last years, home prices have been rising rapidly, both for purchase and rental purposes, and not exactly relieving the Irish housing crisis.
Besides the hard times given to home seekers, especially first home buyers, the housing crisis has been taking its toll on businesses, with many of them facing ever increasing difficulties in getting skilled workers on board.
Cork-based tech company ENV (Esse N Videri Media) is one of many local enterprises that is challenged by recruitment problems, especially in view of the firm’s undergoing expansion on the promising i-gaming markets of Latin America with their 7JP platform and some other key countries in the Americas (here’s the link to the website of 7JP).
Firm in their resolve to not let the current situation with housing in the country jeopardise their company’s expansion plans, the ENV management team has decided to adapt to circumstances and employ a full work from home (WFH) strategy to overcome the crisis with their employment needs.
Work From Home is Well Appreciated by Employees
Survey data on a global sample of 3,000 remote workers provided by the State Of Remote Work 2023 Buffer report shows that ENV’s move for a full WFH schedule is anything but an improvisation, as 98% of respondents answered that they would like to have some remote work component for the rest of their careers.
This impressive majority even marked a raise from last year’s 97% positive answers to the same question. Similarly, 98% answered in 2023 they would recommend remote work to others, again growing by 1% from 97% in 2022.
Positive overall experiences were reported by 91% of survey participants, while 8% gave neutral responses, and just 1% shared they had had negative experiences with remote work.
Flexibility in various forms appears as the main source of attraction of remote work; 22% answered they appreciate the flexibility to choose work and free times, 19% liked the flexibility to move around and live anywhere around the world, and for 13% of respondents, the most desirable aspect of WFH was the ability to choose where to work at.
Saving time (12% of answers) and money (11%) were also among the key benefits of remote work appreciated by employees.
Companies are Also on the Benefit Side from WFH
Cutting down costs from not having to maintain large office spaces and streamlining work processes with the help of advanced digital collaboration tools would be considered a significant benefit by any business, but the sheer motivator for a company like ENV Media to employ a full work from home strategy is the possibility to rope in the so needed fresh talent.
The company’s pool of potential work candidates is now not limited to those who have somehow afforded expensive housing in Cork City or Dublin. One can live in the remotest village and work full time for a tech company, as long as the internet is good enough, and still be getting an “urban”-sized salary.
By all practical means, it is not even necessary to live in Ireland to get such a job, there are a lot of nice and cheap places around the world and even some full scale digital nomading for a while could be a viable option for a young professional at a full WFH company.
