A Sandown man has been fined £320 after he was found guilty of assaulting an emergency worker.
Anthony Serjent, 44, of Royal Street in Sandown, pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 28th October, Police were called to an address on Avenue Road in Sandown, with Serjent arrested in relation to incidents that have since been discontinued.
After being detained, Serjent became aggressive and verbally abusive telling 1 of the officers “I’m gonna chase you down till the day you die cause you look like a f*ggot”.
The 44-year-old then kicked the officer in the leg. No injuries were sustained but it was described in court as ‘very much deliberate’.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that his client was in a vulnerable state at the time and that he hasn’t reoffended since this incident.
In a report read by Probation, the court heard that Serjent has been handed numerous community orders for crimes such as possession of cannabis, theft and failing to surrender.
Anthony Serjent was fined £320 by Magistrates and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge fee of £128.
