Police are continuing to piece together the full circumstances of the deaths of John and Lyn King, who died alongside their 2 Dachshund dogs when their car plunged 300ft off the cliffs at The Needles last week.
It was on Friday evening, at just before 19:20, that the husband and wife’s grey Ford Mondeo careered off the road overlooking Alum Bay, crashing onto the rocks below.
67-year-old John, a former Southern Vectis bus driver who previously worked for Stagecoach on the mainland, was at the wheel of the car at the time of the tragic incident. He was hauled ashore by first responders and was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was located inside the partially submerged vehicle.
According to MailOnline, Lyn King suffered from ill health and was rarely seen outside the house. She was last seen leaving Arctic Road with John and the 2 dogs shortly before 17:00 on the day of the crash. Just 2 hours later, their vehicle was found wrecked at the foot of the cliffs.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is exploring whether the incident was a deliberate act and whether or not Lyn – who appeared to be struggling in her final hours – was a willing participant.
Searches at the couple’s terraced home, which remains secured as the investigation continues, have now concluded.
The next of kin have been informed and have paid tribute, stating:
“We are all devastated and numb from the loss, and would respect some privacy at this time”.
A post-mortem examination was expected to take place today (Tuesday).
In a statement, Richard Tylsley, General Manager of Southern Vectis, has said:
“John King was not an employee of Southern Vectis at the time of his death, having left earlier in the year. John had worked for the company as a network driver for two and half years prior to leaving.
“We are saddened to learn of this tragic event and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time”.
RIP both of you and your dogs. So so sad. XX
Unbelievable. If it was a double suicide as it appears to be I really feel for those poor innocent little dogs
Please respect the loved ones of those who have passed and don’t speculate.
Have respect for this situation; there are people in mourning and distress, please think before commenting. You are nothing short of a gossip.
People have feelings and private thoughts; this is not the time for such speculation. It is your comment that is unbelievable.
They all won’t do that again……….
Sad story
