Of the near £135,000 given to St Mary’s Hospital for equipment and other items by the Friends charity in the last bidding round, a significant sum of £28,000 went on the very latest portable ultra-sound machine for the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
Debbie Beare, superintendent sonographer, said the machine is much improved on the one they had been using for the past eight years, and can provide bedside scans within 24 hours.
Debbie said:
“Being able to take it to the wards is especially useful for elderly patients who prefer not to be moved around. It is also used in the Intensive Care Unit.
“The patients and staff love it; its very efficient and the results are of a very high quality. We are grateful to the Friends for the grant.”
