A Ryde man has been fined £660 after he was convicted of driving without insurance and a valid licence.
Charles Tom, 54, of St John’s Wood Road in Ryde, was charged with driving without 3rd party insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.
Tom failed to show up at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court for the 2nd consecutive time meaning that the case was heard in his absence.
Prosecuting, Lauren Stone told the court that on 2nd June 2023, officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight noticed a car being driven in an unusual manner in the Station Gardens area of Brading.
The vehicle had been driving around in circles throughout the residential area before it was stopped by Police.
Tom was unable to provide any proof that he had a licence or insurance when asked by the Police and it was found that the vehicle was in fact registered to someone else.
Magistrates handed Tom a £660 fine with £85 costs and an £264 surcharge fee with Magistrates saying that the 54-year-old ‘paid the price for not coming to court today’.
The 54-year-old also saw 6 points added to his licence.

Another law breaking driver.
The Police should carry out road blocks on the island,
they would have a field day.
They should team up with the Gigabit Project, no need for their own road blocks when they can use someone else’s for free.
They should have done that to the pensioner whos Mummy wrote him a note excusing him from attending court last week, wasting court and police time, He’s well enough to go out nicking BMW’s and walking around car boots Think this pensioner is taking the Micky out of the judges, could say crying Wolf !!!!!
Bring on todays court round up! Can’t wait!
