Keith Taylor, Member of European Parliament (MEP) for the South East, is visiting the Isle of Wight today (Friday) to highlight the projects on the Island that are helped by EU funding.
The Green Party MEP has promised to be a ‘loud, positive and distinctive voice’ in the EU referendum debate and is arguing that the Isle of Wight is ‘Greener In’ the EU.
Keith, who sits on the European Parliament’s committee on Transport and Tourism, began his trip this morning with a visit to Youngwoods Farm B&B in Newport which is part of the Farm Stay UK scheme. The non-profit organisation is run by a consortium of farmers that, with the help of EU funding, are working to increase farm tourism on the Isle of Wight and across the UK.
Keith has this afternoon met learning disability support group Mencap at Haylands Farm in Ryde. Whilst there, he spoke with disability campaigners who are keen to highlight the local impact of the recent welfare cuts, including the Island’s Mencap youth rep Sam Jefferies and Nancy Farrell of Isle Of Wight Disabled People Against Cuts.
Tonight Keith will join Ian Brown, the chair of the Isle of Wight’s Grassroots Out campaign, at a public debate on the EU referendum at Quay Arts, Newport. The event takes place in the Anthony Minghella Theatre at 18:00 for a 18:30 start – seats are on a first come, first serve basis.
