Residents at Old Charlton House in Cowes celebrated World Golden Retriever Day earlier this week (Tuesday) with visits from 3 gorgeous retrievers who were kindly brought in by their owners who gave up their time to share their dogs.
Residents were treated to visits from Kevin, a beautiful 4-year-old, Bertie, who had a redder coat than the others, and Archie, a 7-month-old puppy – although residents remarked on how big he was.
All 3 dogs had such relaxed personalities and really enjoyed saying hello to the residents and allowed them to pet them. Archie particularly made himself at home on the chairs in the lounge.
Pet therapy is really important in many ways, it offers numerous mental and physical health benefits, including emotional support, reduced anxiety, and improved overall well-being.
When asked about the visits, the residents said, the dogs were very well behaved, lovely to spend time with and that it made them all feel very happy.
Resident, Brenda, said:
“It made us all feel very relaxed and reminds us of a time when we had our own pets”.
Activities co-ordinator, Debbie Webb, said:
“We are so grateful to the owners for sharing their time and their lovely dogs with us. We are a nation of pet lovers, but when someone goes into a care home they are cut off from animals, so we are so appreciative when people give up their precious time to share pets with us”.
