UPDATED: 2 fire appliances from Ryde are tackling a garden fire in Nettlestone this evening (Friday).
The fire has broke out in the rear garden of a bungalow, close to an electricity substation, on Solent View Road.
Crews are using a hose reel to bring the incident under control.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the fire at around 20:00.
A feed is being established off a nearby hydrant to supply water for the continuing firefighting efforts.
Part of the road has been closed.
UPDATE @ 20:29 – The garden fire has been brought under control, but an area of hedgerow has been badly burnt.
Thankfully, no one has been injured and the fire has been prevented from spreading to the sub station.
UPDATE @ 20:41 – Firefighters have now extinguished the fire and are preparing to leave the scene, once equipment is made up and stowed.
A thermal imaging camera has been used to check for any hot spots.
