Ryde Inshore Rescue are seeking the support of Islanders to raise much-needed funds to purchase two new engines for their main lifeboat following a major engine failure last week.
Whilst out on a training exercise on Monday 5th October, Ryde Rescue 1 suffered a starboard engine failure resulting in the life-saving vessel being pulled from active service.
After being checked over by Kev Mole Outboards in Cowes, the damage has been deemed too severe and uneconomical to repair.
The bad news means Ryde Rescue 1 will be out of action for the foreseeable future whilst quotes are obtained for two new engines – a costly setback for the independent volunteer station based at Appley.
Island residents and supporters from further afield are being asked to donate to help ensure the lifeboat gets back on the water as soon as possible. You can donate support the appeal at https://www.justgiving.com/rydeinshorerescue/.
A limited service remains with the smaller Ryde Rescue 2 vessel.
