Albany Lodge 151 has donated more than £2,300 to Ryde Beach Lifeguards in support of their life-saving work on the beaches of the Isle of Wight.
The donation of £2,376.25, made by Worshipful Master Ben Tanner Rolf, reflects Albany Lodge 151’s ongoing commitment to supporting local community initiatives, youth organisations, and national charities throughout the year.
Ryde Beach Lifeguards, the Worshipful Master’s chosen charity, provides voluntary lifesaving cover on both Ryde and Sandown beaches. Last year, the team carried out 2,857 patrol hours, responded to 126 incidents, and directly assisted 85 people. Their efforts also led to 2 lives being saved, alongside 138 preventative actions taken to stop accidents before they occurred.
The team works closely with Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, HM Coastguard, the RNLI, and local lifeboat crews. They also deliver pre-season safety education to local schools and community groups.
Despite their impact, Ryde Beach Lifeguards received no grant funding in 2025, relying entirely on donations to continue their work.
Todd, on behalf of Ryde Beach Lifeguards, has said:
“The donation received from Albany Lodge is greatly appreciated, and has already been used to purchase a new Surf Rescue Sled from Australia, which will be used for our operations in Sandown.
“Enabling the team to use this asset more often, due to the new board being easier to launch and store on site. As a small charity we rely heavily on donations and grants, so we welcome any support from local groups and organisations.”
