It’s been confirmed that popular online food ordering platform Deliveroo is set to start operating its delivery services on the Isle of Wight.
The company announced the news earlier this week, with adverts appearing on various social media channels in a bid to recruit deliverers ahead of the beginning of service. The app, which was founded in 2013 in London, is one of the many popular food delivery apps on the market but until now has had no presence on the Island.
The move is set to be a popular one with many Islanders embracing online ordering whilst indulging in their favourite takeaway, and many restaurants beginning to move to online ordering during the coronavirus pandemic.
Last year, Uber Eats began delivering on the Isle of Wight and has recently announced its plans to expand coverage to include Ryde, as previously reported by Island Echo.
No date has officially been announced for the introduction of Deliveroo, but those interested in working for the company can find more details on how to apply on its website.
Thats only good if they cover all the island & not just Newport or Ryde.
We really do not need more delivery vehicles on our roads. Because they are forced by poor wages to ride or drive fast and to cut corners on the roads they are an accident waiting to happen.
This on top of numerous other delivery bikes , mopeds and cars is a recipe for disaster .
Then we have the Beryl green electric scooters. This company are not acting remotely responsibly and are not checking compliance to their rules. I have seen clearly underage riders , scooters with 2 people on board and also being ridden with total disregard for the highway code including on the pavement. These incidents are not infrequent.
Its all the building materials being delivered causing most problems,certain roads closed off for quicker delivery,the island should be prospering like other islands,proper train service would also help,most expensive bus service in europe,people have no choice but to use roads,where does all the money go?why have all these festivals etc if island always going to be skint?covid testing place of world for tracking when you cannot anywhere get aless you pay a small fortune point is why are we so far behind times?
