Letter to the editor – Thursday 24th August 2023
“We went to Totland for the day as it is one of my favourite family beaches in the West Wight.
“The beach is dog friendly and has parking (albeit at a high cost) and until recently, toilets! I was dismayed that the toilets have been closed for the foreseeable future due to servicing problems. I will admit the toilets are not of the best standards but the community has tried to lift them with mosaic panels on the outer walls.
Article continues below this advertisement “The big problem is where can the public go to the toilet. Folk were going in the sea, behind the toilets and potties were emptied on the stoney beach ( the tide was in).
“As I have previously said the parking charges are very high and in return we should expect some services and a toilet is essential if you are spending the day on the beach.
“This is so unacceptable for this day and age and folk urinating behind buildings is quite inappropriate.
“We are trying to improve our beaches for holiday makers and this includes cleaner seas and beaches, this is a very poor example of how to turn folks away and pollute our beaches and shoreline.
“The Totland Parish Council website only refers to historic closures and updates and does not explain the current situation or a planned way forward.

Alas with no toilets , what do you do ????
Not very nice but if you are desperate!!!!!.
With the amount of council tax we pay and being a tourist island you would think toilets would be a priority!!!!!!!
But our numptys prefer bickering rather than solving problems!!!!
Wasting money is normal for this lot !!!! More toilets now or we really will be a crap place to visit …….
Already are no toilets at lake it’s discusting holiday isle my arse..
That’s is disgraceful.i have ms and need loo pretty urgent on occasion so important too me for sure.iv used those loos way back..disgusting inside but still.so the council ..who get shit loads of our money who can throw it at our money pit floating turd Bridge.. well a loo is cheap by comparison.SORT IT OUT

That’s what they allways have done in that area since they were born ( no toilet training)!
FYI if you can manage the walk up and down steps then you can park up the top by turf walk for free. Agree with the toilet situation and cannot understand why facilities are not provided during the holiday season. Surely this should of been a matter of urgency to get them fixed if they are unusable.
I remember reading that vandals were damaging these toilets, maybe that is the reason for the closure.?
It is probably for this reason why the new toilet at Freshwater bay gets locked around half past four.?
If members of public are able to hold it in and walk then the nearest toilet to those at Totland are at Colwell.
I believe it is known locally as The Hut.
We should all stop paying council tax. It’s gone beyond a joke now. For over 10 years cut back after cut back. Well now they can’t even cut hedges. When the recession hits what will the council cut back? Nothing left to cut back. So let’s all unite and make a stand for what we want. Let’s stop paying council tax as an island. Seriously though, it’s not about the money, it’s the principal of it.

One of the dearest councils in the UK with the least in return. Extortion at its best taking as much as possible from probable the lowest paid wages in the UK but this so-called caring council squanders taxpayers hard earned money on useless projects and their on comfortable wages.
We need a uprising in the island and for that matter in the whole of the UK.
Yet they can afford a £million sea pool at Yaverland.
There’s a pub at end. Use that like they do abroad.
Who will probably have a sign up saying customers only, to stop people from using it.
This is the result of a stealth Tory council combined with one of the worst Tory governments this country has ever had the misfortune to experience. If they win again, there won’t be any NHS left, let alone money for funding money for essentials. Our council is probably the worst on record, with enormous amounts of our money wasted on useless and unnecessary hairbrained ideas and now we all feel it, literally. I don’t blame anyone for peeing somewhere when there is no other option. Things will get a whole lot worse than this if the Tories win again. As for county hall, well it’s full of egotistical idiots who think that being in public office elevates their position in society, they only have their own best interest at heart, not ours. Fact
