The Cowes Floating Bridge service has been suspended this morning (Thursday) after a fault developed on the vessel late last night.
Shortly before midnight, passengers travelling between Cowes and East Cowes were told that a problem had been discovered on Floating Bridge No.6.
Island Echo is told that the engine room hatches were open, indicating a potential problem below deck.
The Isle of Wight Council say that the Floating Bridge is out of service due to a technical issue and apologise for the inconvenience.
A foot passenger launch is in operation.
An update will be issued as soon as she is back in service. No estimated time has been given.
UPDATE @ 13:20 – The floating bridge is now back in action, more than 12 hours after the fault hit.

As in the council AND the boat.
Thought it had been a while since the last break down, still we all know it won’t be the last

Yes Les, it’s amazing what bung money can achieve eh?
I’m as shocked as everyone else I’m sure
Councilor responsible for this Farce should be investigated. Council overspend £1 million which this boat has played a large part in. Will mean another poll tax rise. Doubtless he will hang on, until the huge pension kicks in.
Pemanent fix needed.
Poll tax should not rise to cover annual incompetence of highly rewarded councilor’s.
I am so shocked to be reading about this
Tory council incompetent. I assume you will all vote anyone but Boris the pathological liar
Tory party incompetence.i assume everyone will vote anyone but Boris the pathological liar
The lemmings will not vote them out…
Scrap the ruddy thing and the councilors who ordered it and bring back the old one.
