Investigations are continuing after the body of a woman in her 50s was discovered at a flat in Newport yesterday afternoon (Monday), prompting a murder investigation to be launched.
At around 21:00 last night, a 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder following the grim discovery of a woman’s body at Woodbine Close at just gone 12:30 on Monday lunchtime, as first reported by Island Echo.
The body was removed from the property last night following an initial forensic examination of the crime scene and a Home Office post-mortem is thought to be taking place today in a bid to establish a cause of death.
So far Police have only said that the prime suspect is known to the deceased, but it is unclear at this early stage how the woman came about her death or when the death occurred. Local residents say she was last seen on Friday.
Police remain in the area making enquiries to establish the wider circumstances surrounding the death. A cordon remains in place around the property.
This latest incident comes just weeks after another murder investigation was launched in Ryde.
