The first photos have emerged of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service’s new electric Ford Transit ambulances.
Island Echo previously reported how ambulance staff had slammed the service’s Fiat vehicles, with concerns raised about reliability and suitability for frontline use.
It was reported back in May last year that the service was eyeing up a new electric frontline fleet.
Now, the first images of the replacement Ford Transit ambulances have surfaced ahead of their introduction into service.
The new ambulances are confirmed to be fully electric and zero-emission vehicles. They are also said to be dementia friendly and are based on a WAS 500 Box body fitted with a Stryker PowerLoad PowerPro2 System.
The ambulances have been built by Wietmarscher Ambulanz- und Sonderfahrzeug, also known as WAS.
As long as they work well enough, I’m all for it. I just hope a few defibrillator shocks won’t deplete the entire power unit and strand the bloody thing XD
Will it mean they get to us any sooner than the usual 5 hour wait.? Of course not
